How it works
- You get 4 photos each from 5 destinations, shuffled together, with no names.
- Rate each photo from 1 to 5 stars on how much it pulls you in.
- See your top destination, the runner-up, and the travel style your ratings point to.
What destination is right for me?
Most travel quizzes ask what you think you like: beach or city, budget or luxury. But a famous name brings expectations, and it's hard to be honest about a place you already have an opinion of. Judging photos blind skips all that. If you keep rating misty mountains above sunny piazzas, that tells you something a checklist can't.
What's your travel style?
Your ratings also point to one of these travel styles:
-
🏔️ Wild Places Seeker
Remote mountains, glaciers and big, empty landscapes.
-
🌊 Shoreline Drifter
Coastlines, clear water and slow beach days.
-
🏰 Old-Town Wanderer
Cobbled streets, old squares and historic buildings.
-
🌆 Big-City Energy
Skylines, crowds and cities that never slow down.
-
🎨 Color Enthusiast
Bold color, markets and busy street life.
-
🏜️ Desert Dreamer
Dunes, ancient ruins and wide open desert light.
How to choose a travel destination
Start with how a place makes you feel. Before flights or itineraries, ask which scenes you'd want to be standing in: old streets, mountains, open water. A famous name can't tell you that. Your gut reaction to a photo can, which is what this quiz is built on.
Then let the practical stuff narrow it down. Flight deals and friends you can meet along the way are great tie-breakers. Once you know the kind of place you're after, a cheap fare to one of several good options is a win rather than a compromise.
Ask whether you'll get to wander. Iceland surprised me. It's stunning, but it felt built for Instagram: I was shuttled from one photo stop to the next and never felt like I was really in the place. In India I was shuttled around too, but there it felt necessary, and in between I could just wander and take the place in. Think about whether a destination lets you do that.
Don't try to see everything in one trip. In Uzbekistan I did four cities in seven days, crossing the entire country, and I got sick. Fewer stops with more time in each almost always beats a checklist.
Check the season for what you're going for. Patagonia's hiking season runs roughly November to March, and much of Thailand gets heavy rain from about May to October. The right place in the wrong month can still disappoint.
Still torn between two? Compare them blind. Rate photos of both without names and see which one you're really drawn to.
